ENGAGEMENT SESSION LOCATION IDEAS NEAR GRAND RAPIDS, MI
As a Michigan based engagement, elopement, + wedding photographer, I’ve explored and shot at some of the most beautiful areas of West Michigan - many right in or right outside of Grand Rapids! I’m a huge fan of going somewhere that means something to you as a couple (where the proposal happened, where you first met, your favorite hangout place, ect.) but sometimes, you just need recommendations. So here they are. There are so many more locations, but here are some of my favorite.
SILVER LAKE SAND DUNES, HART, MICHIGAN
This location is bit further than the rest and requires walking and hiking up many tall dunes, but it’s SO worth it. I recommend this location to adventurous couples who don’t mind going barefoot + getting a little sandy. The endless rolling dunes and scattered beach wood is truely breathtaking.
HEARTSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD, GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN
The “heart” of GR. If you don’t want to leave Grand Rapids and are looking for a city feel - Heartside is for you! Known for it’s art - there are many murals + tons historical architecture that make for the perfect artsy, edgy photos! We could stop into one of the cities local breweries, coffee shops, record shops.. the perks to this location are endless.
GRAND RAVINES NORTH, GEORGETOWN TWP, MICHIGAN
Grand Ravines is a whopping 187 acres of trails, scenic views of the Grand River, several bridges, and open fields. It is a dog friendly park, which is wonderful for those of you looking to incorporate your fur baby into your session!
MUSKEGON STATE PARK, MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN
If hiking giant dunes like the ones in Silver Lake aren’t really your thing, but you still want a beachy feel with rolling dunes - I really love Muskegon State Park. It’s best to shoot here in either early in the morning, or just before sunset.
KIRK PARK BEACH, WEST OLIVE, MICHIGAN
I know, I know.. another beach location. Just thought I’d mention this one for the couples with dogs. Kirk Park is a DOG BEACH! Cool, huh? Dogs can roam without a leash. There are forest-y trails leading to the beach, breathtaking lookouts, boardwalks, and beach wood.
